Polka dots fantasy images and on being on social media or not
So here you are some personal thoughts and a set of images of mine of portraits with polka dots clothing, in a set of fantasy that I don't know well how to name, but I like very much. They are also available as print, if you like them.
I know I am not the only one. I saw many people getting really tired of social media, specially creatives.
On Youtube, I saw two videos that are about this. The most shocking is this one:
In it, she says a lot of things that I can relate to, and everything wonderfully explained.
Another one, is this:
And others out there, saying similar things, although never in such a good display of synthesis.
In this last video, it's an alternative, and is a good useful video for artists wanting to stop being on social media and still exist for the rest of humanity:
Here's a pic by me to watch, in the meantime:
When you are a creative person and spend time on social media:
- You spend less time creating.
- The discussions, very frequent, with random trolls, drain your energy.
- The return is ridiculous compared to the time invested.
"Social media are about social interaction and popularity, but this (art) was never about it. It was about yourself and expressing yourself".
"Being on social media is shouting in the middle of a motorway, besides people shouting about crypto or how to become rich".
In my case, I doubt I will have a Youtube channel or similar, and I lack the time to record videos all the time. I consider Youtube is in the middle of a blog and social media.
I actually don't care at all about making money from my creations. It's a possibility, but I am not going to spend my time in making my things profitable. I prefer to concentrate on creating, and if someone likes, that's good, but it's not the primary goal.
The primary goal is self expression, the relief that creating gives me.
On the previous year, I spent a quite big time in promoting on social media. Now I just keep Instagram, because it allows me to follow some artists I like, and watch painting tutorials.
But I removed myself from all the others. I felt I just couldn't express most of my opinions in public, on places like those, full of trolls. They won't agree with you even if they see your views are right.
My experience is that people just go there to annoy others. I will give you a list of what social media is under my point of view:
- No one wants to leave the social media they are to visit your page.
- Most people are advertising something. There's almost no genuine consumers of content.
- You are forced to fit into a category, something definitively not for me.
- People go there mostly to argue with others, not to watch or give feedback.
- Everyone is quite mad there, even if they aren't at other places.
- Being on socials poisons your soul and takes most of your time away.
- Social media use your creations to have content, and you just get the breadcrumbs they throw to you.
