Adding the world map to my game
I've been working on my game again, and added the world map. From the pencil sketch in the last post, I made a collage with one image of each one of the 40 locations of the game, and then painted between them.
This way I made a map in color, in which every location is represented. I chose to not detail the areas in between places too much so it doesn't look cluttered or confusing.
As you can see above, I also added an image of the characters, so the player can know where they are.
I added some particle effects, that change in color when the picked destination is a city, a sanctuary, or a dungeon. Don't worry, I'll tell you what this means in another post.
I also added a button to center the view (now marked as an X, but it will change to a fancy icon). As the map has the names of the places in it, but it distracts and breaks a bit the immersion, I will also add an icon to hide and show the text names.
You can move thew view in the map dragging, with the mouse or the finger in the case of Android.
This means, as a player, that you can look at all the map, and make your strategic movements to reach a particular place. For example, if someone tells you to complete a quest in the Green Maze, you can look how to arrive there from where you are.
As the game progresses, you will know how dangerous is each place, and their particular features. Being able to move freely is one of the features of the game. Another feature is that, as in real world, to reach most of the places you have to go though others.
There are cavern tunnels between some distant places, though.
I'll show you more as I progress in the making of the game.
In this moment I am now working on the features that the different places will have, and that is another aspect that deserves its own post.
